R.B. Beck is an author and storyteller who found their voice in the wild, beautiful landscapes of Alaska. Growing up surrounded by snow-capped mountains, endless forests, and the dancing lights of the aurora borealis, Beck developed a deep love for the magic hidden in nature and the power of stories that bring families together.
Drawing from years of campfire tales, family traditions, and the “nearly true” stories passed down through generations of Alaskan families, Beck crafts adventures that spark imagination while celebrating the bonds of family and the importance of keeping promises.
When not writing, Beck can be found exploring the Alaskan wilderness, sipping hot chocolate, and dreaming up new adventures for Carayak and the Red-Bearded Man.
Why I Wrote Carayak's Story
Every child deserves to see themselves as the hero of a grand adventure. Growing up in Alaska, I was blessed with incredible stories—tales that made me believe in magic, that taught me the value of promises, and that showed me the strength of family bonds.
I wanted to create a story that captures that same sense of wonder and warmth. A story where a child must make difficult choices, where magic comes with responsibility, and where love—between parent and child—conquers even the wildest transformations.
Carayak’s adventure is about more than dancing elves and talking moose. It’s about the promises we make, the secrets we keep, and the lengths we’ll go to protect the ones we love. I hope this story becomes a favorite in your family, just as the tales that inspired it became treasures in mine.
